How to defeat Corpse-Eating Xue in Phantom Blade Zero

Corpse-Eating Xue is a boss that you will encounter in the Mandate Encampment region of Phantom Blade Zero. It is one of the most annoying boss fights in the entire game, although not very difficult. Unlike most other bosses in the game, Corpse-Eating Xue will always have five more mob enemies in the arena, and all of them will attack you at the same time. It’s this gimmick that can be a deterrent when it comes to winning easily.

To defeat Corpse-Eating Xue, you need to isolate the main boss and target her, while also getting rid of a particular type of mob enemy. This article will explain how you can defeat the boss easily and progress the quest in Phantom Blade Zero.

Where to find Corpse-Eating Xue in Phantom Blade Zero

Corpse-Eating Xue is located in the Mandate Encampment region of Phantom Blade Zero, and is nearest to the Mass Grave Bell. To reach Mass Grave Bell, you need to first reach Cliffside Walkway Overlook Bell, and you should naturally reach this area during the early stages of Mandate Encampment.

Clear out all these areas, and you will receive a key from one of the enemies that will open a door beside the Cliffside Walk Overlook Bell. Simply head straight through the door and you will reach the Mass Grave Bell after around 100 meters.

Once at the Mass Grave Bell, jump down the cliff and then either jump down another cliff or use the wooden log. Take note not to jump down both cliffs in one go, as this will deal a lot of fall damage and you will die.

How to defeat Corpse-Eating Xue in Phantom Blade Zero

Corpse-Eating Xue is essentially a mob fight with multiple enemies in Phantom Blade Zero. The boss herself is not very aggressive, but aims to swarm and overwhelm you with multiple enemies. Here is the loadout that you should use to defeat her:

• Primary weapons: Outlaw Warblade, Fiend Saws (alternate option: White Serpent & Crimson Viper)
• Phantom Edges: Dread Axe, Fire Meteor / Hunter’s Chain Sickle
• Medicines: Healing Gourd, Kuye Dew
• Accessories: Medicine Case (+1), Reflex Device (+2), Resonance Talisman (+1), Nameless Thumb Ring

Despite being a mob fight, Corpse-Eating Xue is quite tanky and will take a substantial number of hits. The Fiend Saws is an excellent option because, apart from normal attacks, it can also deal damage over time, and its passive can deal unblockable attacks. However, you will need to have unlocked the third phase of the Mu Xiaokui boss and won to get this item. If you do not have the Fiend Saws, the White Serpent & Crimson Viper is a good alternative weapon.

Owing to the mob-fight nature, you will likely need to heal a lot in this fight. As such, the Outlaw Warblade (received from Jing-Ye) is a no-brainer because it can heal you with both normal attacks and Power Surge.

Corpse-Eating Xue attacks in Phantom Blade Zero

Corpse-Eating Xue is a single-phase boss fight in Phantom Blade Zero. However, it is not a one-on-one fight, as the boss will summon five other enemies at all times. In case you defeat any of these five, a new one will spawn to take its place. Each of these mob enemies has its own moveset, and you would have faced them all in the normal overworld.

Here are all the attacks that Corpse-Eating Xue uses in Phantom Blade Zero:

• Summon: Corpse-Eating Xue summons five other enemies (all female) that will attack you relentlessly. Defeating any of these spawns a new one, so the total number is always five (at least on Pathbreaker difficulty).
• Mob attacks: Each enemy has its own moveset, and you have encountered all of these before. The mobs can either throw knives, green fireballs, attack you with a spear, dual sickles, a single sickle, a greatsword, or simply melee. These mob enemies can also have dark/grey and red attacks.
• Shriek and dash: Corpse-Eating Xue will shriek, causing the screen to show a soundwave icon. Following this, she dashes towards you and uses her plough to attack you. This is a red attack, and you should dodge-counter it.
• Three-hit combo: The boss raises her plough and strikes down vertically. This is a dark/grey attack, and you need to dodge it. She will follow this up with two more attacks with her weapon, both of which can be parried or dodged.
• Revive health: Corpse-Eating Xue will sometimes kneel in front of a grave and eat the corpses to recover some health. She is completely vulnerable during this time, so keep attacking her to drain her Sha-Chi.
• Two-hit combo: The boss has a straightforward double-hit combo with her weapon.
• Four-hit combo: Corpse-Eating Xue also has a four-hit combo using her weapons. The last attack is usually a blue attack that you can dodge or parry.
• Single overhead strike: Sometimes, Corpse-Eating Xue also uses a single overhead strike. This can be dark/grey or a normal attack, and she can chain this move with any of her other combos.

As mentioned earlier, Corpse-Eating Xue herself is not very aggressive or difficult. It is the nature of the fight that can be troublesome, and you need to know the right way to tackle her and the mobs to win easily.

How to beat Corpse-Eating Xue in Phantom Blade Zero

Here are the tips and tricks to easily defeat Corpse-Eating Xue in Phantom Blade Zero:

• Take out the dagger thrower: First and foremost, check if there are any dagger throwers in the summoned mob. This is the greatest threat in the fight, since these daggers do not show a prompt when they are about to hit you. Moreover, three of these daggers can completely drain your health. When the mobs are summoned, do a quick scan for any enemies without any weapons. Immediately focus on killing that enemy. Once killed, the enemy that respawns will have a different skill set.
• Aggro the boss: As much as possible, focus only on Corpse-Eating Xue. She has a larger model than the rest of the mobs, so identifying her is easy. Keep attacking her and bringing her health down as much as you can.
• Deplete Xue’s health bar: Apart from the main boss health bar on the top of your screen, Corpse-Eating Xue will herself have a small bar on top of her model. Depleting this completely will cause the main health bar to lose around 10% of health all at once, and a new Xue will respawn.
• Defeat mobs with green flames/aura: One or two of the mob enemies will have a green flame or aura on them. Dealing damage to these enemies also depletes the main health pool on top of your screen. After you manage to defeat the main body of Xue, focus on these enemies to bring down the overall health bar further.
• Dodge all red attacks: Perfect dodge and counter as many of the red attacks as possible, both from Corpse-Eating Xue and her mobs.
• Use your weapon skills: Both the Fiend Saws and White Serpent & Crimson Viper are aggressive options. However, if you need to replenish health, rely on the Outlaw Warblade first instead of using your healing items.

Rewards for defeating Corpse-Eating Xue in Phantom Blade Zero

Defeating Corpse-Eating Xue gives you 66,000 Remnant Dust as an instant reward in Phantom Blade Zero. There are no rewards in terms of weapons or Phantom Edges. However, it does progress the Xue, Admirer of Heroes side quest.
