Jim Courier believes Jannik Sinner could benefit by following in the footsteps of Carlos Alcaraz following his struggles at the French Open.
Sinner had major issues with the hot conditions in Paris this time last month, when he lost in just the second round of the Grand Slam.
The Italian has been working hard behind the scenes to try to get to the root of the problem, although his focus has since switched to Wimbledon.
How concerned are you about Jannik Sinner’s physical issues going forward in his career?
And Sinner is back to winning ways after triumphing in the first round in London, where temperatures are cooler than they were in Paris.
Still, the Italian has now received advice from former ATP number one Jim Courier should such tricky conditions return.
Jim Courier suggests Jannik Sinner may need to copy Carlos Alcaraz
After Sinner beat Miomir Kecmanovic in five sets, Courier said on Tennis Channel: “I mean, I had my trouble with humidity. I didn’t struggle in really hot, dry weather.
“But everyone’s got their own path, and I’m sure his path has led him to a lot of science, and trying to figure out what he’s losing when he’s sweating and how he can possibly manage to replenish that better. Is there an anxiety component to this too when he sees the heat rise?
“I would certainly think so, based on having the traumatic matches he’s gone through this year.
“Some of them he’s been able to win, but of course at Roland Garros, that was about as dramatic and traumatic as you’re going to get, weather influence. You’ve got to solve that.”
His fellow legend Martina Navratilova then commented: “I think the stress of what’s going on in the match, but the stress of wondering whether it’s going to happen again, and that itself can make it happen, because stress does really weird things to your body that you don’t recognize until it’s something really serious.
“And this is serious for him. And it’s kind of out of his control, and that’s what’s frustrating I think for him.”
And Courier added: “We’re only going to know though if he’s solved it the next time he’s in that hot, humid situation, and he starts to cramp up, which can happen.
“[Carlos] Alcaraz has been dealing with that too. But Alcaraz has been able to turn it around and survive like he did at the Australian Open this year versus [Alexander] Zverev, and recover from that.
“And maybe Alcaraz has learned how to relax in a way that Sinner’s going to need to learn to if he gets in that traumatic situation again.”
Jannik Sinner can win Wimbledon if he avoids heat struggles
Of course, different players have different bodies and different ways of reacting to certain conditions.
And Sinner evidently has issues in extreme heat, which could come into play as the event at SW19 progresses.
But if he does manage to overcome the heat should it return, the Italian is very likely heading for another Grand Slam title.

He clearly knows how to win at the grass-court major, having done so last year, while Sinner has just earned a rare five-set win.
That should give him great confidence going forward, along with his ability on the surface, with Daniil Medvedev claiming Sinner is the best mover on grass.
Of course, there is the added bonus of Alcaraz’s absence from Wimbledon, while 39-year-old Novak Djokovic certainly isn’t the player he once was.
