Yuriorkis Gamboa will headline BKB 58 in Miami after Mark O’Neil withdrew because of visa issues, moving the Olympic gold medalist’s bare-knuckle debut into the top slot. BKB 58 takes place Saturday, August 29, at Miami’s James L. Knight Center, with the preliminary card scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET and the main card beginning at 8 p.m. ET. Gamboa will face Yesner “Cuajadita” Talavera in the Trigon, BKB’s three-sided fighting surface, in a matchup now promoted to the main event.

The change ends the planned BKB heavyweight title fight between champion Gustavo “The Cuban Assassin” Trujillo and England’s Mark O’Neil. O’Neil was forced out of the card over visa problems, leaving BKB to reshuffle a card already built around several debuting names and title fights.

For Gamboa, 44, the Miami appearance brings a decorated boxing career into a new format. The Guantanamo-born fighter won flyweight gold for Cuba at the 2004 Athens Olympics, beating France’s Jérôme Thomas 38-23 in the final. He turned professional in 2007 and finished his boxing run with a 30-5 record and 18 knockouts.
Gamboa held the WBA featherweight title from 2009 to 2011 and unified it with the IBF belt in 2010. His resume includes fights against Terence Crawford, Gervonta Davis, Devin Haney and Isaac Cruz, but the Talavera bout will be his first under bare-knuckle rules.
The switch from gloves to bare knuckles presents a different task even for experienced boxers. Punches land and cut differently, defense becomes more urgent and the smaller Trigon changes how fighters manage range. Gamboa’s speed and experience are established parts of his background; Saturday will reveal how they transfer to BKB competition.
Talavera is also set for his first BKB contest, making the main event a debut-versus-debut clash despite Gamboa’s higher-profile record. The bout had originally been positioned as the co-main event beneath Trujillo-O’Neil.
Gustavo Trujillo Meets Jarome Hatch in New BKB 58 Co-Main Event
Trujillo will remain on the bill but now meets former BKB cruiserweight champion Jarome “The Hatchet” Hatch in a non-title co-main event. Trujillo enters with an 8-0 BKB record, with all eight wins coming by first-round knockout, alongside a 12-0 professional boxing mark.
Hatch steps in on short notice after last appearing at BKB 55 in Cardiff, where he lost a decision to Dan “Big Pod” Podmore. He owns a notable bare-knuckle win over BKB bridgerweight champion Marko Martinjak, stopping the Croatian in the first round at BYB 16 in 2018, and brings a lengthy combat-sports record into the heavyweight meeting.
BKB 58 still includes three championship bouts: Yunieski Gonzalez vs. Ethan George for the vacant cruiserweight title and Alberto Blas vs. Brandon Birr for the super-featherweight belt, alongside the revised headline attractions.
Former UFC title challenger Aspen Ladd is due to make her BKB debut against Bianca Daimoni. Ladd previously competed once in bare-knuckle fighting, stopping Shyanna Bintliff at a BKFC event last November.
Miami’s Robert Duran Jr., son of boxing great Roberto Duran, also faces Ryan “The Bull From Hull” Spivey. Duran Jr. is 3-2 in BKB and 12-4 as a professional boxer, while Spivey brings a 4-2 bare-knuckle record and a 1-0 BKB mark into the contest.
