Alexander Zverev is playing his first tournament since Roland Garros at the Halle Open.

Zverev became a Grand Slam champion for the first time at Roland Garros after beating Flavio Cobolli in the final.

The German has not played another tournament since then, with Zverev withdrawing from this week’s Stuttgart Open.

As he looks to make his comeback in Halle, Zverev’s first opponent since Roland Garros has been confirmed, as he faces a potentially tricky second round match.

Alexander Zverev could play Joao Fonseca at the Halle Open

Zverev has been drawn to play against world number 65 Vit Kopriva in his first grass court match of the 2026 season in Halle.

He’s finally got his first!

This will be a first-time meeting between the two players, and if Zverev is able to prevail he could play against Joao Fonseca in the second round.

Zverev beat Fonseca at the Monte Carlo Masters earlier this year, but they have never played on grass before.

Some of the other threats to Zverev in the top half of the draw in Halle include Ben Shelton, Taylor Fritz and Alexander Bublik.

If Zverev is able to overcome this to reach the final, he is forecast to play second seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, but he could also face Cobolli in a rematch of the Roland Garros final.

Alexander Zverev’s previous results at the Halle Open

This year will mark Zverev’s 10th appearance at the Halle Open, but he is still yet to win the title in front of his home support at the ATP 500 tournament.

Grass is statistically Zverev’s worst surface, and he is still yet to win a title at any tournament on grass.

Zverev has twice been a win away from doing so at the Halle Open, having reached the final in both 2016 and 2017.

In 2016, Zverev was beaten in the final by his compatriot Florian Mayer, while in 2017 he lost in the final to Roger Federer.

Where will Alexander Zverev finish 2026 ranked?

Zverev will be hoping to capture his first grass court title at the Halle Open this year, where the main draw gets underway on Monday, June 15.

The 29-year-old will also be playing doubles in Halle alongside Marcelo Melo.
