Ever since it was announced that Fallout 3 would officially be getting a remaster alongside Fallout: New Vegas, fans of the series have been eagerly awaiting an update on when we can expect either game. Despite plenty of patience and countless teases since, the actual release date is still nowhere to be seen.
As if that wasn’t enough, Bethesda themselves keep adding fuel to the fire with their official and strangely timed acknowledgments of the game, with the latest trailer having fans fully convinced they were in for an official announcement.
A Post That Tricked Countless Fans
Posted on Bethesda’s official Fallout account on X, the studio put out the full 2-minute trailer of the original Fallout 3 with a date of “October 28, 2008 #BGS40” in the caption, which had fans who glanced at the post eagerly jump in thinking “this was the Fallout 3 remastered reveal” before realizing that it wasn’t anything new at all.
While it would have been perfectly fine if the trailer was posted on the actual anniversary of Fallout 3, it’s not hard to see why fans were tricked after seeing a different month than November, followed by a year that is only one number change off from a reasonable 2028 release date.
Fans haven’t been quiet about their frustration either, with countless comments being confused or downright angry at Bethesda’s decision to randomly release the trailer over a week after Fallout 3’s anniversary that “got my hopes up for a sec.”
Fans Are Getting Tired Of Waiting
Although it wouldn’t be a modern-day Bethesda game without massive wait time between announcements and release dates, best seen with the latest 9-year wait for an Elder Scrolls 6 title reveal, the post was even more convincing at first given that a random reveal wouldn’t be a surprise for Bethesda either, with fans believing it was going to be another “shadow drop” like the Oblivion remaster.
The post has already prompted some new release date theories as well from excited fans, who think that it could be teasing an October 28, 2028 release date like some fans had misread when initially seeing the post. With most fans posting things like “my heart dropped” and asking “why did you bait me like this,” however, it seems all it did was leave fans even more disappointed.
