Chicago Bulls rookie Caleb Wilson is following in Michael Jordan’s footsteps.
Last season the Chicago Bulls finally picked a direction, and leaned into the decision to tank, after years of straddling the middle in the NBA. The call paid off with a high Draft Lottery pick, landing them North Carolina graduate Caleb Wilson.
Wilson is already off to an incredible start to his NBA career. He has scored 67 points from three games, which ranks behind only Michael Jordan in Chicago Bulls history. That’s great company to be in.
| Rank | Points (First 3 NBA Games) | |
|---|---|---|
| Michael Jordan | 1st | 74 |
| Caleb Wilson | 2nd | 67 |
Wilson delivers 30 point game
In just his third NBA game, Caleb Wilson scored 30 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in their matchup with the Washington Wizards. He was 9-11 from the field and also had three assists.
Frustratingly, it was not enough to avoid a 124-120 defeat against the rejuvenated team led by Anthony Davis and Trae Young. But despite the loss, this was a statement game from Wilson.
After 16 points on his Bulls debut and 21 in his second appearance, this 30 point game continued an impressive upwards trajectory for the rookie.
Speaking after their win over the Bucks, Wilson promised CHSN: “I’m going to be the most focused and most detailed player ever. It’s time to work.”
To back that up with a 30-point performance in his next game is even more impressive. Next up his 1-2 Bulls team travel to TD Garden to face the 2-0 Boston Celtics.

Wilson just wants to win
The individual milestones are impressive for Caleb Wilson and his development, but don’t expect him to be too happy about it.
Speaking earlier this year to Andscape, he explained that his only motivation is to win basketball games.
“I’ve broken a few records already and done some monumental things, but there is nothing more important than winning… I can score a hundred points tomorrow and if we lose, nobody will care.
“To me it’s just all about winning and making sure I keep the main thing the main thing.”
Wilson may find it tough this season on that front, with the Bulls not expected to finish the season with a winning record. But if he keeps on delivering 30-point games, then they may spring a few surprises along the way.
