Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is finally easily playable on PC thanks to a fan-made recomp that is the closest thing we have to a port.
Although Castlevania has been sleeping for a long time and is only just about to have its first new game in more than a decade, Konami has at least been keeping the series’ past alive with remastered collections. As long as you’re not Lords of Shadows, those collections have made it very easy to play every Castlevania game.
There’s a bit of a strange exception to that rule, however. Castlevania Requiem, which notably includes the best game in the series, Symphony of the Night, is completely locked to PlayStation. That’s left PC players without a way to experience Alucard’s journey for quite some time, which has finally changed thanks to a fan project.
Symphony Of The Night Is Finally Playable On PC With This Port

The project in question is NocturneRecomp, which, you guessed it, recomps the Xbox Live Arcade version of Symphony of the Night and makes it playable on both Windows and Linux. The project was actually released a few weeks ago, but it was brought to my attention by Castlevania YouTuber Dr4gonBlitzDaily, who showcased it in action.
While I have no idea how the Xbox Live Arcade version of SOTN stacks up against its other ports, NocturneRecomp looks like a very solid way to play the game, even supporting modding and widescreen. A developer on the project even suggested that more features are coming, such as quality-of-life items and Randomiser compatibility.
I’ve just finished my first ever playthrough of SOTN, but NoctureRecomp is making it mighty tempting to go through it all over again…
Even if the recomp wasn’t incredibly impressive, it’s also one of the only good ways that PC users have to play Symphony of the Night, which makes it a bit of a godsend. If you’re looking to revisit the series before it finally returns with Belmont’s Curse later this year, NoctureRecomp looks like it’s well worth checking out.
