Corentin Moutet came under fire recently after swearing several times during a live BBC interview.

The comments were made following the Frenchman’s 6-7, 6-4, 7-6 victory over compatriot Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard at the Queen’s Club Championships.

Moutet later said on Instagram: “I was just joking, I hope you guys didn’t get offended. Thanks for the love.”

The enigmatic figure that is Moutet has since been fined $40,000 (£30,325) by the ATP Tour for his remarks at the West London event.

As a result, Moutet has lost nearly all his prize money from the event.

Liam Broady defends Corentin Moutet

British player Liam Broady has issued a statement in defence of Corentin Moutet, labelling the ATP Tour as ‘out of touch.’

“How he’s got fined 40,000 dollars for probably the funniest on court interview I’ve seen all year I do not know,” Broady said in an X post accompanied by three laughing emojis.

“So out of touch,” the world number 209 [pictured below] added.

Boris Becker, the three-time Wimbledon Men’s Singles champion, has also offered his take on Moutet’s fine.

“Certainly teaches him a lesson,” Becker said in another X post.

“It’s very high but he was told few times not to swear on live TV.”

Moutet earned around £32,800 at Queen’s, meaning the Frenchman earned around £1,675 from the event after being fined for his comments.

The 27-year-old has appealed the fine.

Corentin Moutet’s performance at Queen’s

Moutet, unseeded in West London, began his Queen’s campaign by defeating Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 6-7, 6-4, 7-6.

He was then defeated in the second round by Alejandro Davidovich Fokina: 6-4, 6-3.

The French star has now travelled to Mallorca for his next grass-court event.

He is due to play unseeded Hungarian, Marton Fucsovics, in the first round on Monday.

If Moutet emerges victorious from his first match on the Spanish island, he will play either Grigor Dimitrov or a qualifier in the second round.

Following his campaign in Mallorca, Moutet will shift his attention towards Wimbledon.

The third major of the calendar year begins on June 29.
