Valheim has spent several biomes asking you to venture into increasingly terrible places, so naturally, the final destination is a giant frozen nightmare at the very top of the map. The Deep North is exactly what it sounds like: snowy, cold, and packed with plenty of reasons to regret leaving your cozy little base behind.

After hundreds of hours of sailing, fighting, farming, building, and generally refusing to live a normal Viking life, you might be ready to see what is waiting beyond those northern waters. Getting there is not especially complicated, but the journey does require a little preparation. If you are ready to swap warm meadows for endless snow, here is how to reach the Deep North in Valheim.

How To Reach The Deep North

The easiest way, and really the only way, to reach the Deep North is by ship. Sail toward the central northern section of the world map until you reach the snowy coastline. You do not need to find a specific landmark or complete a special quest to enter the biome. Though you’ll likely want to use a fully upgraded ship before attempting it.

It may take quite a while to sail that far, so plan for some downtime sailing.

When you reach the Deep North, try to find a relatively flat area along the coast where you can safely build a Portal. Bring the materials with you so you can quickly establish a connection to your main base rather than having to make the journey by ship every time you need supplies.

The Deep North is extremely cold, so bring equipment that keeps you warm before heading inland. Strong Ashlands-tier armor and weapons are also recommended since the biome is designed for endgame players.

You should defeat Fader in the Ashlands before making the journey north. His drop allows you to build the Eternal Pyre, which attracts Embers. These are needed for Deep North progression, and you cannot simply collect them after arriving in the biome. It is also worth purchasing Haldor’s Wider Pockets and Deeper Pockets inventory upgrades before leaving. Together, they provide 16 additional inventory slots.
