GTA 6 finally launches next month on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but what about Switch 2?
Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard was asked exactly that in an interview with Variety, and while she didn’t say no, she didn’t exactly say yes, either.
“That’s going to be a conversation for Take Two and Rockstar,” Pritchard said. “Nothing to announce on my end at this time.”
GTA 6 On Switch 2: What Leakers Say
Reputable insider NateTheHate2 claimed in November 2025 that Rockstar “was doing tests to bring [GTA 6] to Switch 2,” but stressed that “tests don’t always equal release.”
“I know an effort has been made to see if they can bring it to the platform,” he explained on X. “I don’t know the current state of that effort.”
Leaker Nash Weedle claimed in June 2026 that the “technical hurdles have been overcome” and “specialists in Switch 2 ports have been brought in via subcontract”, though he warned it “won’t arrive this year.”
Shpeshal Nick responded directly to Nash Weedle’s claim, adding, “For what it’s worth, I haven’t heard ‘it’s coming’ but I’ve heard [Nintendo is] working with Rockstar/Take Two to try and make it happen.”
If these leaks are accurate, Rockstar has at least explored the possibility of bringing GTA 6 to Switch 2, and there may have been further efforts to make it happen since. But so far, there’s been no official confirmation. As Pritchard said, it’s a conversation for Take Two and Rockstar.
To offer a sliver of hope, at least, Rockstar and Nintendo do have history. The team launched a DS-exclusive GTA in 2009 with Chinatown Wars, before bringing the infamous GTA Trilogy to Switch in 2021. So, Rockstar isn’t exactly a stranger to Nintendo hardware, even if getting its most ambitious open-world game yet running on the Switch 2 would be a different beast entirely.
