The new look Philadelphia 76ers looked impressive in their preseason clash against the Celtics.
Jaylen Brown faced off against his former team to wrap up preseason. But the former Finals MVP is looking forward instead of back.
Brown was traded to the 76ers in the offseason, inadvertently forming a new ‘super-team’ with LeBron James signing in free agency weeks later.
The duo shared the court in the Sixers’ final warm-up game, with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey also starting.
Speaking in the locker room postgame, Brown paid tribute to LeBron James and admitted it was still new to be lining up alongside him.
Asked if he still had moments where he couldn’t believe it was really LeBron James there, he responded: “Yeah, you do absolutely.”
Brown added: “Like it’s incredible to see his work ethic and to see his process, and like, that’s the greatest player to play the game.”
Words like that is exactly the type of positive affirmation LeBron James wants to hear in his quest for greatness – but initially, he looks to be taking it easy.
Are the 76ers going over/under 50.5 wins, and why?
How LeBron James fared vs Celtics
The Boston Celtics won the game in overtime 125-120. Both teams were missing stars, with VJ Edgecombe out for the Sixers and Paul George for the Celtics.
Brown, Embiid and Maxey combined for 69 points, playing high-level basketball that looked like they can be a major force together this season.
LeBron James scored eight points, grabbing eight rebounds and seven assists. It was a modest return – but still an impressive one for a 41-year-old – and exactly how he should be playing in preseason.
LeBron is too wise to be going all out in preseason. He will have been conserving his energy for bigger challenges ahead.
