Jannik Sinner is looking to continue his utter dominance of men’s tennis at Roland Garros, where he is the top seed.
Sinner kick-starts his Grand Slam campaign against Frenchman Clement Tabur, who has received a wildcard in Paris.
The world number one enters Roland Garros with five titles won in the 2026 ATP Tour season, and a 36-2 win-loss record.
And his form has been catching the eye of tennis legend John McEnroe, who has offered the approach he would take to try to beat Sinner if he was playing now.
Jannik Sinner is now a bigger favorite to win Roland Garros than Rafael Nadal ever was

John McEnroe suggests how he would try to beat Jannik Sinner
McEnroe told TNT Sports: “You’d have to find ways to get into his head. Which is extremely difficult.
“He’s a great kid and he knows opponents will try that.
“His wingspan is huge, so you’d need to use short angles, drop shots and bring him forward, especially on clay, where the first step can slip.
“You don’t want to fall behind in rallies. You might need to take bigger risks on the return.
“His serve has improved a lot, so you have to decide whether to stand back or step in and attack the first ball.”
Remarkably, only Novak Djokovic and Jakub Mensik have beaten Sinner in 2026, producing superb wins at the Australian Open and in Doha respectively.
Prove me wrong – Jannik Sinner’s best surface is clay
If not, what is?
What is Jannik Sinner’s history at Roland Garros?
It certainly would be an intriguing match-up if prime McEnroe was to meet prime Sinner on the court.
Of course, the surface could have been a key factor, with the American having claimed four Grand Slam titles at the US Open and three at Wimbledon.
Meanwhile, the Italian only needs a title at Roland Garros to complete the set and achieve the Career Grand Slam.
| Result | Year | Tournament | Surface | Opponent | Score |
| Win | 2024 | Australian Open | Hard | Daniil Medvedev | 3–6, 3–6, 6–4, 6–4, 6–3 |
| Win | 2024 | US Open | Hard | Taylor Fritz | 6–3, 6–4, 7–5 |
| Win | 2025 | Australian Open | Hard | Alexander Zverev | 6–3, 7–6(7–4), 6–3 |
| Loss | 2025 | French Open | Clay | Carlos Alcaraz | 6–4, 7–6(7–4), 4–6, 6–7(3–7), 6–7(2–10) |
| Win | 2025 | Wimbledon | Grass | Carlos Alcaraz | 4–6, 6–4, 6–4, 6–4 |
| Loss | 2025 | US Open | Hard | Carlos Alcaraz | 2–6, 6–3, 1–6, 4–6 |
And despite never triumphing in Paris, he still boasts a fantastic history at the tournament, where he has a 22-6 record since his debut in 2020.
His best result arrived this time last year, when the Italian lost an epic final clash against his fierce rival Carlos Alcaraz after five hours and 29 minutes.
And on clay courts throughout his stunning career, Sinner has an 82-24 record, with his winning percentage of 77.4% ranking him third among active players.
