Carlos Alcaraz won his seventh Grand Slam title earlier this year, and in doing so became the youngest man to complete the Career Grand Slam at just 23 years old.

And, he did so having just split with his long-term childhood coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero.

Many questioned the decision to part ways with someone who had been ever-present during his professional career and helped guide him to such success.

They suggested that the hangover from such a bold move could even derail his career.

Which player will Juan Carlos Ferrero coach next?

The Spaniard left Carlos Alcaraz’s team at the end of 2025…

Fortunately, Carlos Alcaraz wasted no time in silencing those doubters, even if the rest of this campaign has been ravaged by injury.

Despite his subsequent absence from the ATP Tour, it did not stop Ferrero from talking.

And now, upon his return to action, his former coach has once again thrust himself into the limelight.

Juan Carlos Ferrero said they had to ‘work’ on Carlos Alcaraz’s emotions

Speaking to Spanish media outlet El Larguero, he discussed the flaws he saw in Alcaraz when overseeing his development.

Unprovoked and unnecessary, Ferrero revealed: “He’s always been a very emotional player. Keeping his emotions in check was the area that required the most work.

“Yes, little by little, that was the main focus; the actual tennis structure, how to approach different matches, was relatively easy because he was capable of anything. He adapted very quickly to whatever was asked of him.

“Mentally, however, there was a lot of work to be done. He was very young and had to mature gradually to realise. I always told him not to be too hard on himself. Being such a perfectionist, and with everything coming so naturally to him, he would punish himself severely whenever things didn’t go right.

“I think he’s learned to manage that; we still see it happen occasionally, where he has a bit of an outburst, but it happens less and less now.”

Ferrero then added that they were always wary of him, concluding: “In that regard, we had to keep a close eye on him; though, to be fair, he was improving in other areas. You know, there are always risks surrounding a player: bad influences, the wrong kind of friends, so I, much like his family, always tried to warn him. I told him not to look at social media… a losing battle.

“I wanted him to realise who his real friends were and distinguish between those who were there for the right reasons and those who were just out for personal gain. I’d tell him to watch what he was doing at night, since it could affect his performance, and to make sure he got enough rest.

“It’s all those little details that ultimately set a player apart from the rest.”

Ferrero also discussed rumours linking him with coaching Rafael Jodar in that same episode.

Juan Carlos Ferrero needs to stop talking about Carlos Alcaraz now

Whilst all they achieved together is certainly worth shouting about, it is getting a little exhausting hearing Ferrero keep cropping up on various media outlets to share his thoughts on Alcaraz.

They split in December of last year, and from that point onwards, it has felt like we’ve seen more of the Spanish coach than ever.

At first, he spoke about how he had been wronged, and how the truth would come out.

Then, as the months went by, he provided insight that nobody asked for into Alcaraz, questioning his methods and casting doubt over his professionalism.

Even more recently, Ferrero has continued his attempt to stay relevant by discussing the various coaching roles he has declined or would be open to, even addressing rumours linking him with a partnership with Jannik Sinner, Alcaraz’s greatest rival.

He is a legendary coach who helped mold arguably the greatest male youngster in tennis history. However, at this point, it’s getting tiring to hear his views on a player he no longer coaches, and who has so clearly moved on without him.

Most of what he says nowadays comes across as bitter and unhelpful, with these latest comments being exactly that.
