New York Knicks superstar Karl-Anthony Towns has paid tribute to new teammate Andre Drummond.
Andre Drummond sat inside the New York Knicks locker room during their ring ceremony. He felt he had not earned the right to soak in the team’s moment of glory. Drummond was a free agency addition in the summer, joining the team after they won the NBA Championship.
Once the opener started against his former team the Philadelphia 76ers, Drummond was in the midst of the action. He scored 12 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, although that was not quite enough to prevent the Sixers from winning 106-100.
Speaking today via SNY, Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns paid tribute to Drummond’s efforts.
Towns said: “Shout out to Andre, man. He was amazing. Game one in the garden, ring night. For him to bring that kind of juice, the energy to our team gave us a chance to win, he did an amazing job.”
He added that Drummond is a player he has always regarded incredibly highly.
“I’ve sung his praises all the time. I think he’s one of the best big men I’ve seen come through the league in my time here, and one of the best rebounders of this generation. So for Andre to remind everyone how great he is is really special.”
Drummond also had 4 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks against his former team.
Speaking at the same press conference, Josh Hart also praised the way that Drummond has settled in, commenting that he brings: “Tremendous energy on the court, off the court, in the locker room.”
Are the Knicks going over/under 52.5 wins, and why?
Andre Drummond filled Mitchell Robinson role
Andre Drummond was brought in to replace Mitchell Robinson, who signed in the offseason for the Boston Celtics.
Robinson had a difficult debut for the Celtics, where he rolled his ankle and scored only four points in their loss to the Pistons.
The next game brings another reunion, with the Knicks set to face the Celtics at TD Garden. Both Drummond and Robinson will be looking to make a statement, and one of these teams will be falling to 0-2.
