If you hear the phrase “quarter-circle forward” and your thumb instinctively twitches, you already know what time it is. The annual pilgrimage to the promised land of fighting games is finally here. EVO 2026 is officially taking over the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center from Friday, June 26 through Sunday, June 28, and the hype levels are completely off the charts.
EVO is completely different from your standard, sterile, invite-only esports tournament. It is a massive, beautiful, democratic open bracket where over 5,700 unique players have signed up to press buttons at an elite level. Anyone from a casual arcade legend to a random person off the street can technically pay their entry fee and find themselves sitting directly across from a world champion.
With 12 distinct games on the main roster, the weekend promises plenty of pop-offs, broken hearts, and casual trash talk. Let’s look at the absolute titans you need to keep your eyes on while you watch the streams this weekend.
Street Fighter 6 is Stacked to the Absolute Brims

Street Fighter 6 remains an absolute juggernaut, pulling in an absurd 2,414 registered players for its bracket alone. Good luck navigating that minefield.
First on your watch list has to be Yamaguchi. The 24-year-old Zeta Division player is coming in red-hot after completely dominating EVO Japan back in May, where he managed to win the entire thing without even dropping into the lower bracket. He had a bit of a rough exit at Blink Respawn earlier this month, but if he brings his Tokyo form to the desert, everyone else is in massive trouble.
Then you have MenaRD, the absolute menace who packs a terrifying Blanka and a pocket M. Bison. He is always a threat to win the entire tournament. And you’ll find yourself wanting him to win since he does it for the people.
Do not forget about Big Bird, the two-time Red Bull Kumite champion who narrowly missed out on the Las Vegas crown previously and is looking for ultimate redemption.
Oh, and there is also a casual living legend named Daigo “The Beast” Umehara entering the building. You never, under any circumstances, write off The Beast.
Tekken 8 and the New Kid on the Block
Moving over to the 3D realm, Tekken 8 is bringing its own brand of high-flying martial arts drama. The man with the massive target on his back is Arslan Ash. The undisputed king of Tekken is on a mission to claim every major trophy he can get his hands on, and he is looking to successfully defend his previous Vegas throne.
Trying to stop him will be LowHigh, the reigning Tekken World Tour champion and absolute master of Bryan Fury, alongside American favorite Anakin, who is looking to make a massive deep run on home soil.
If you want a break from the classic franchises, keep your eyes glued to the 2XKO bracket. Riot’s upcoming tag-team fighter is making waves in the community, and a teenager named bleed is currently the talk of the town. After causing massive upsets at Frosty Faustings by taking down absolute fighting game royalty, this young prodigy is looking to prove his lightning-fast mastery of the game is the real deal. If SonicFox and Leffen let him.
Grab your favorite controller, stock up on snacks, and prepare for a weekend of pure fighting game excellence. Vegas is about to witness some serious history, whether you believe the prestige is gone or not.
