LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers produced an incredible comeback to defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Cleveland Cavaliers scored 69 points by halftime to take a commanding lead against the Philadelphia 76ers. Analytics gave the Sixers only a three percent chance of winning.
And yet somehow, the Cavaliers blew the game. Or did the Philadelphia 76ers win it? The 76ers would argue the latter, ending their home season opener with a euphoric 114-106 win.
The 76ers came back from 29 points behind, and remarkably, this was the biggest comeback of LeBron James‘ basketball career, a staggering feat considering how long he has been playing.
Speaking on his channel, Gilbert Arenas spoke in awe at the incredible firepower the Sixers have, and suggested that nobody is truly safe going up against them.
He likened their explosiveness to the Golden State Warriors at their peak, who could quickly go on scoring runs and recover leads due to their incredibly efficient three-point shooting.
Arenas said: “There was only one team that you was up 29. You was like ‘I don’t know if we don’t get up 40…’ The Warriors. That used to be scary.
“Now you’re like with that Philly team, they do have a bunch of players that can actually get crazy at any point, right? Because it’s not like we can just stay focused on this same person and neutralize him.
“That person can say, “You know what? Hey, it’s not my night. Maxey, do it. I’ll just play defense for the night and then hopefully in the fourth quarter, you can come find me. They have four people who can do that.
“And that that becomes a problem.”
A HUGE comeback win for the 76ers in the home opener! What did you make of LeBron James’ performance in the win? 👀
LeBron finished the game with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists.
LeBron James is now in the perfect situation
LeBron James is in the perfect situation for this stage of his career. Entering his 24th NBA season, he is now relinquishing control.
There is no pressure on him in Philadelphia. There is more pressure on Joel Embiid.
Jaylen Brown and Tyrese Maxey are providing incredible firepower, while VJ Edgecombe is in his second year in the league and getting better all the time.
Anfernee Simons can be a big contributor off the bench too, even if Charles Barkley wants to see more size on the roster.
With the Sixers beginning the season at 2-0, knocking off both of last year’s Eastern Conference Finals teams, optimism is sky high.
