A rare albino buffalo nicknamed “Donald Trump” has gone viral ahead of the Eid al-Adha festival in Bangladesh.
The Eid al-Adha festival, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice” is one of the most important Muslim holidays in Bangladesh. It sees family gatherings, prayers, and the ritual sacrifice of livestock.
Bangladesh has recently seen unusually large or otherwise distinctive animals be used as part of the celebrations. They are often given funny, celebrity-inspired names in an attempt draw buyers and visitors.
Albino buffaloes are rare in Bangladesh
This year, one of the sacrificial animals is an albino buffalo. It has been given the nickname “Donald Trump” because of its flowing blonde hair that some have likened to the U.S. President’s signature hairstyle.
The cream-coloured buffalo weighs just shy of 700kg (or 1,540 lbs). It was raised at a farm in Narayanganj, a district near to the capital Dhaka.
The buffalo has been bathed four times a day and fed four meals daily to keep it in good health.
According to Reuters, Ziauddin Mridha, the farm owner, is not the one who coined the name. “My younger brother named the buffalo Donald Trump because the hair on the front of its head resembles Donald Trump,” he said.
“Despite its striking appearance, it is very calm by nature,” he continued. “It is an albino buffalo, and animals of this type are generally gentle and do not become aggressive unless provoked.”
The animal, one of the most popular ever at the festival, has since been delivered to a customer to be sacrificed as part of the celebrations.
