Dan Clancy, Twitch‘s CEO, says the next GTA Online arrives “next year,” a detail he picked up from a conversation with Rockstar about GTA 6.
To this day, Rockstar has never confirmed a GTA Online sequel exists. The studio guards every detail about GTA 6 fiercely, which is the same instinct that got xQc’s GTA 6 reaction VOD pulled off Twitch last month while other streamers kept theirs up.
Which makes Clancy the first person with real access to Rockstar to attach a year to it.
Twitch CEO says GTA Online 2 launches next year
Clancy laid it out in an interview with Bloomberg during a trip to Tokyo Game Show, where he revealed he had “spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans.”
He then anticipated the following: “You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer.”
Mind you, GTA 6 itself launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S, but Rockstar has said nothing official yet about an online mode or when it might arrive.
It’s clear Rockstar’s silence is deliberate, and it’s not new. Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick offered the closest thing to an official hint in an interview with IGN. Speaking to Wesley Yin-Poole, he pointed to the company’s treatment of another franchise, NBA 2K Online, in China, saying: “Generally speaking, we support our properties when the consumers are involved with those titles. As an example, we launched NBA 2K Online in China, I think originally in 2012 if I’m not mistaken. And then we launched NBA 2K Online 2 in China in 2017. If I’m not mistaken.”
If Rockstar follows that same playbook, the current GTA Online could survive right alongside whatever comes next, which would certainly ease nerves for the players who still log in daily.
It’s a familiar pattern by now, as Rockstar stayed just as tight-lipped last year when it pushed the whole game back to May 2026 before landing on November instead.
