Between the A Minecraft Movie and Amazon’s Fallout show, there are already a lot of adaptations of Xbox-owned games out there. Xbox wants more of that world, though, as a new report reveals it has been pitching a package to various big studios that includes more than a dozen of its IPs.

Xbox’s Massive Adaptation Package

Paramount

According to a new report from Puck, Xbox is trying to find a buyer for a “bulk studio deal” that would see the suitor eventually turn more than a dozen of the publisher’s biggest IPs into movies and TV shows. Not every IP is listed. However, the ones named include Halo, The Elder Scrolls, World of Warcraft, and Diablo.

Three of the studios Xbox has reportedly pitched the idea to include Netflix, Paramount, and Universal, although representatives from all three declined the chance to comment. Xbox is apparently asking for $300 million for the mega package, and while that might seem like a good deal considering just how much the winning party will have to work with, one studio has already stepped back due to the asking price. It’s unclear which studio that was, or even if it was one of the three mentioned above or an unnamed fourth.

After Hollywood finally figured out how to make good video game adaptations roughly six years ago, there have been countless movies and TV shows spun from some of the biggest games in history. It’s actually a little surprising that there isn’t an Elder Scrolls TV show already. I imagine that, if Xbox can find someone to pay for its $300 million package, TES would be the first property on the list that gets adapted.

Halo has, as many of you will unfortunately remember, already been turned into a TV show. Even though that show came after Hollywood cracked the video game formula, it’s the exception to the rule that proves not every game you adapt will automatically be good. It flopped, but the rights have reverted to Xbox. Now it seems it wants someone to have another try. My hope is that Halo gets the movie treatment instead this time.

There will be some IPs that aren’t a part of this package because they can’t be. Not just Fallout and Minecraft, but also Gears of War and Call of Duty, both of which already have adaptations currently in production. That $300 million figure would have been significantly higher if Xbox were able to include the rights to a CoD adaptation, too.
