After Grand Theft Auto 6’s latest trailer kicked off a lot of debates about the supposedly downgraded graphics, fans might have figured out why it looks so blurry.
Earlier this week, Rockstar surprised us all with a brand-new launch trailer for GTA 6, which has been dropped more than a month before the game is planned to release. Beyond giving us an amazing look at Leonida and some more context on Jason and Lucia’s story, the trailer also brought back everyone’s favourite debate – have the graphics got worse?
As is the case any time we get a new look at GTA 6, some fans were convinced that Rockstar has downgraded the game’s visuals compared to the earlier trailers and screenshots. In the case of the launch trailer, I can’t really blame anyone for saying that since it is noticeably blurry, but there might be a good reason for that.
GTA 6 Launch Trailer Is Blurry, But That Doesn’t Mean It’s A Downgrade
Don’t Worry, Leonida Will Still Blow Your Mind
As soon as the launch trailer was released, a lot of GTA 6 fans pointed out that it looks worse than the previous footage we’ve got, with many specifically pointing out how blurry certain scenes are. Trying to take a screenshot of the trailer makes this clear, as even still shots don’t look right for a 4K trailer.
While some fans have jumped to calling it proof of a downgrade, others have settled on blaming the trailer and the specific filter used for it. Twitter user GTA6_Turkish shared an “unblurred” version of the trailer that changes its lighting and effects, and it instantly looks less blurry than the official version, albeit a bit choppier as a trade-off.
Over on the GTA 6 subreddit, a thread was started about why the trailer looks a little off, with some blaming HDR, bloom, and a “cinematic” filter that’s been placed on it. The general consensus is that the launch trailer looks so different compared to everything else we’ve seen because it’s going to be used in adverts on TV and in cinemas.
I can’t pretend to know why that would matter, but it does at least explain why the launch trailer might look a lot less sharp overall. More than anything, though, it should settle any concerns that GTA 6’s graphics have suddenly been nerfed, as if that was ever going to be the case with a month left to go until launch.
