Golden State Warrior star Draymond Green claims two of the game’s top stars will ‘never’ win the MVP Award.
Ahead of facing Luka Doncic‘s LA Lakers in their season opener, Draymond Green says the team’s superstar is destined to never win the MVP Award.
Green says that Doncic and Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum achieved too much early in their careers, that their greatness is now taken for granted.
Speaking to his podcast, Green explained: “He will never win an MVP because of how much success he had young that now he’s had that level of success or better for so long that it’s not even recognized.
“Same thing with Luka by the way, Luka will never win an MVP in the NBA. This is the last possible year he can win it.
Luka can go average 34 points a game they be like yeah, of course Luka can average 30 points a game.
Then JT can go average 30 and they’re like oh, we know he can average that much points, both of them can average 30-11-8 and it won’t be viewed as somebody else averaging those numbers, it’s like people get fatigued of it.
“Same thing happened with Bron, you can’t tell me he only should have 4 MVP’s”
LeBron James won the MVP four times during his career, and has not done so since 2012-13. This come despite him averaging 26.8 points per game across his regular season career.
- 2008–09 Season: Cleveland Cavaliers
- 2009–10 Season: Cleveland Cavaliers
- 2011–12 Season: Miami Heat
- 2012–13 Season: Miami Heat
His four MVP awards tie him with Wilt Chamberlain for the second-most MVPs in NBA history, trailing only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (6), Bill Russell (5), and Michael Jordan (5).
Jayson Tatum has averaged 23.5 ppg across his career, while Luka Doncic is even higher with 29.2 ppg.
Doncic averaged 21.2 ppg in his rookie season and last year averaged a staggering 33.5 ppg, more than MVP winner Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, 31.1 ppg.
Green raises a fair point about voter fatigue, but the recent trend with Gilgeous-Alexander has shown that the combination of an elite team and high individual numbers supersedes a player putting up numbers on a 50-win team.
Doncic and Tatum need their respective teams to win 60-plus games to really elevate their case, and realistically, this looks to be a difficult task.

Draymond Green’s pick for the MVP
Draymond Green has named New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson as his pick for the 2026-27 Award.
Brunson was the Finals MVP, and Green says he believes the former Mavericks star will have plenty of motivation to keep proving people wrong.
“I’m going to go Jalen Brunson. He’s the type of dude that’s convinced himself all summer that even though we won, they don’t respect me.”
Brunson’s Knicks lost their opener to the 76ers, 106-100. He scored 21 points in the defeat.
