A pizza restaurant in New Jersey has been going viral after a confrontation over a birthday party bringing their own cake, despite claims they had permission to do so.
When you go out to a restaurant to celebrate someone’s birthday, you do have to call ahead if you want to set up some balloons, decorations, and even bring your own cake.
Some restaurants will allow you to bring your own dessert for free, and even supply the candles, but others will charge for it too. Poza in LA came under fire when a food reviewer revealed they had a $110 cake-cutting charge on their bill.
Now, over in New Jersey, a pizza restaurant has now found itself on the end of some backlash after the hosts of a five-year-old’s birthday party were confronted over bringing their own cake, despite claims they’d gotten permission to bring it.

A clip of the argument was uploaded to TikTok by Tom Jurkowski, who runs the Vintage New Jersey account, showing one female employee confronting the party over the cake at the Joey’s Tomato joint.
“You don’t just walk into a restaurant and do whatever you want,” the employee was heard asking them, “How about if I just come to your house with a cake?” She also called it “inappropriate” too.
Jurkowski said that the party had gotten permission to bring the cake and offered to pay any fees that the restaurant may have wanted for it, even after spending $250 on food and drink. “I hate to be that guy, but I just had to take a video of this because this was the craziest thing I’ve ever experienced,” he said in the TikTok caption.
The video has picked up plenty of attention on social media, with many saying the restaurant “handled it poorly,” and negative reviews being dished out by social media users.
“This is insane. Looking back, I’m still surprised by how this all unfolded,” he added, noting that the response from the worker caught them “completely off guard.”
“My hope is that everyone involved learns from this,” he added, noting that he doesn’t want livelihoods to be affected by it.
Jurkowski urged viewers to stop leaving negative reviews too, as other restaurants with similar names were also being hit. Those negative reviews have been shut down by some review sites, as the ability to leave a rating has been turned off
